Five years had passed since the mysterious burstlinkers, Silver Crow, defied all the odds and bested all others contender to reach level 10.
However, abruptly following his ascent to the highest level was a period of sharp decline. Although the any knowledge of the incident itself was already lost to the record, it was apparent that remaining players were uninstalled en masse and the first generation of Brainburst had lived to its final day.

Ideally, the memory wipe would have the whole incident erased and pass on quietly, but, despite the measures taken to ensure that the game would be kept a secret, rumors started to float around the network pertaining its existence. However, with none left to bear witness or perhaps with those that remains unwilling to do so, the story of the accelerated world never attained any status higher than a mere myth and for only four years did it remain so.

Starting with a privileged few, the second instance of the game began to enter into circulation in similarly secretive manner. Among those who were fortunate enough to receive the program, some considered the second Brainburst to have been staged by the same elusive mastermind. Others deem it to have risen from remnant of the last game. In either case, it was apparent that the accelerated was reviving with the same vigor as before.

The transition, however, did induce great many elements of change from the earlier period of the six kingdoms, mostly regarding the state of affair within the Unlimited Field.
This time, with none to step forth as an advocate of peace, conflicts seemed inevitable between the legions. What started as arm races and minor squabbles over territory soon escalated into a full-fledge war that consumed all Tokyo in its entirety. It was a period of widespread and unprecedented violence that which had never been seen before in the accelerated world.
Another year soon went by in the real world before the flame of the war would begin to smother. Where the others have all perished, three great legions of Western Tokyo had risen from its ashes

Ordinis S. Gladius, an order of Duel Avatars that fought to protect most westerners from the assault of the other legions. They defend the weak and kill the strong. But recently, they seem to have changed somehow, as they are heading to the east. Some people believe they are planning to take over Greater Tokyo before their rivals and make their ranks bigger.

Although the presence of the second legion is undeniable, some information, including it's name, remains shrouded in mystery. Based on sketchy accounts of those who came into contact with them, the legion was ruled by an iron-fist of their totalitarian leader that pushed it to a new height of discipline and mechanical efficiency. An avid user of shock and awe warfare, they plowed through all resistance with superior offensive power in all ranges.

And lastly, Argyraspides or the Silver Shields. Led solely by the military prowess of one charismatic king, the legion’s dominance was firmly established through conquering a wide expanse of land from Nishi-Tokyo to Higashi Yamato. With the emphasis on strength of arms and battlefield honour, numerous warriors were drawn under his banner and formed an essential part that allows the legion to boast strategic versatility in warfare.

With each being more or less equivalent in combat strength, the fighting soon reached its saturation point and fragile truce soon followed. The political power, instead of amassing in the center of Tokyo as before, shifted to the west, the native turf of those who remained.

Having seen through the rise and fall of many, the leader of each was not quite as foolish as to break the current stalemate without first acquiring a solid prospect of victory. The first two to engage in combat would both render themselves vulnerable to the third. Knowing this, a treaty of non-aggression was enacted, but this fleeting time of peace came with steep cost of upkeep.

To be deeming the agreement as a peace accord would be to embellish its very nature, for its direct consequence was such that the wound of last war could never receive the chance to heal. Regardless of the huge power vacuum left by the collapse of the eastern legions, listed among the clauses was a mutual agreement that none would exert their dominance upon the newly vacant territories and the barren Greater Tokyo remained abandoned.

With an exception of occasional skirmishes along the border, it had been far too long since the accelerated world had seen its last theater of war. Now lacking in burstpoints to bolster their strength, the legions’ attention consequently turned eastward. In an effect, the ruin of Greater Tokyo was reduced to mere hunting ground and all the hapless burstlinkers who bear no allegiance were likened to preys, to be hunted down and drained to their last burstpoint.

Against all odds, the new batch of linkers to make their entry into the Unlimited Field soon found themselves scraping by just to remain alive against the raiding parties that periodically came to exploit all that the lawless wasteland had to offer, futilely clinging on the glory of old.

Thus, it is this bleak setting that our story begins…
