Forum Rules

First and foremost, please read and at least familiarize yourself with some of the main regulation. All admins and moderators will be operating under the assumptions that the member have the knowledge of the necessary rules. 'I didn't see it' or equivalent excuses are not acceptable. Notification will be sent prior to any changes made in the rules.

While we do not want to oppress or alienate any member, a certain standard must be maintained within the community to ensure a pleasant roleplay experience for all. Any malicious attempt to circumvent these rules or disrupt the community will be retaliated.

General Rules

  1. Activeness: All accounts must remain reasonably active, thus at least one post should be made within the time span of two week. However, we also understand that there are myriads of real life issue to deal with. If any member believe that they will not have the chance to post within two weeks, please contact any admin or mod and you will be exempted from the penalty. The admins reserve the rights to delete accounts which had been deemed as inactive if no explanation is given.

  2. Minimum Length: Each post must have an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of 4 full lines (Full lines meaning reaching one end of the board to the other. Use the preview option to help you). One-liners or a single action are not permitted, because it kills creativity for the one you are with.

  3. Be Civilized: No spamming, flaming, or profanities allowed in the website. If you want to critique others' writing and idea, please do so in a civilized manner. Give constructive criticism, not insults. Likewise, the same rule applies to any response to the critique. If you wish so, defend your stance with rational justification, not insults. All who do not comply with this rule will encounter severe punishment, regardless of the instigator.

  4. Maintain Emotional Maturity: Whining and complaining are not permitted by any means. If you are not satisfied with any aspect of the site, make a thread in the suggestion area. Admins and/or moderators will come by soon enough to address your concerns. Constructive criticisms and suggestions are always welcomed, immature complaints are not. Do note that it doesn't mean your idea will definitely be adopted.

  5. Additional Characters: While we allow each member to make second character, they must make an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM of 100 valid role-playing posts before they are permitted to do so. Since one character is allowed per account only, if you are planning to make another character, please do so using another account. Do note that the same rule of activeness applies to both accounts and each must make at least 1 roleplay post within two weeks.

Interactions between the two characters are permissible. However, you will not receive burst-point from any fight in which your characters are pitted against one another, even as one of the opponents. Any attempt to fool us and farm burst point will cause your level and current burst point to be reset. Dungeon-running using both characters is allowed, but there must be absolutely no god-modding. Your two character cannot communicate using telepathy. Sufficient build up to there relationship must also be written out in the role-play.

Profile Submission Rules

  1. Color Rule [Temporary]: For a limited time, colors will be made unique, as in players cannot have the same color as another one that currently possess it, unless under a special circumstances. These special circumstances will be dependant on the Admins, unless you have a good reason as to why you desire the same color and that a variant does not fit. For more details, refer to the Taken Color Chart, to which you can reserve a color if you are currently making the character.

  2. Follow the template: The templates for character creation exist for a reason. Use them, follow them, and don't try to circumvent them, unless you have a really good reason of doing so, in which case you will have to inform one of the admins or moderators beforehand. Do bear in mind that we might ask you to modify your application to maintain balance over the general power level of the burstlinkers. If any issue should arise regarding a character and/or their abilities, all admins and mods reserve the rights to request necessary changes to be made. While we don't normally resort to this measure, something that breaks the game mechanics or doesn't respect our system will be subjected to this.

  3. Be Realistic: While we are not trying to limit your creativity, we realize that a line had to be drawn somewhere. If your character has some special skill, there should be certain story to back it up. Still, you have to admit that it just doesn't sound plausible for a 15 years old to have a black belt in karate, be a master hacker, and/or own a multi-million business tycoon. Also, do remember that the general guideline of the characters and the society in the real world is supposed to be rather ordinary, so anything that doesn't fit in the scope of the canon such as professional criminal, terrorist organization, or serial killers are not allowed in the real world. If you want to wreck havoc, do so in the accelerated world.

  4. Incomplete Application: should be marked as [wip] or work in progress to avoid any confusion and premature judgment on the moderators' side. Upon completion, a thread should be marked as [ready for evaluation]. It might take a few days for us to get to your profile, but feel free to bump things up a little or ask us in the chatbox. Two approvals are required for each profile. You absolutely cannot start role-playing before all the required approvals are given.

Roleplaying Rules

  1. Remain in Perspective: Write in the perspective of your character, not your own perspective. Some OOC instances are understandable, but please do show an effort to keep things consistent with what was written in the profile. Without sufficient role-play to create plausible scenario, new skills, traits, and/or connections cannot be stated and acquired out of the blue.

  2. Absolutely no God-modding: The term god-modding include displaying or utilization knowledge that the character shouldn't otherwise acquired, refusal to take hit or forcing the opponent to take hit regardless of the status system, and generally doing anything beyond what is possible for your character or the scope of Brainburst. You cannot expect to win every fight nor should you attempt to make your character do so.

For those new to role-playing, you cannot control the opponent's action. You can only state the manner of your movement and attack within your post, but your opponent will be the one who decide whether the attack lands. However, you can still potentially force him into a situation where dodging is not possible.

  3. Formal Language: We are not asking you to be Shakespeare, but at least please try to maintain some standard of writing when making role-play posts. This means no internet slangs (lol, lulz, and the likes) and smiley in your narrative, unless you're showing content of email written that the characters have written. However, we are more lenient about profanities in role-play posts as long as their usage is consistent with your character.

  4. Age control: In general we allow 18+ threads to be made, but they MUST be properly labelled as one (Like, in the topic title, write [Hentai] or [Gore]). Extremely violent or explicit sexual content are borderline permissible, but otherwise discouraged.

  5. Minimum Length: To maintain a certain standard, we request that a duel thread must be at least one page long. Taking turn to commit suicide during the match in an attempt to farm burstpoint is not allowed and will be dealt with harshly.

  6. Be Mindful of Others: You cannot start a duel thread without your opponent consent and neither should you barge into thread labelled as closed. Talk to people in the chatbox if you want someone to roleplay with or post in an appropriate area. Also, the act of physically killing, maiming, or causing permanent harm to other characters in the real world is not allowed without first obtaining their consent. Evidence of this agreement is required to be shown to moderators, PM or messages in the chatbox would suffice.

  7. Respect the Timeline: We are not against the fact that you roleplay on different locations, but we would like you to respect a certain timeset. If you're at 2 locations, we would like you to assume that one of the event happened after the other, not both at the same time and you suddenly gain knowledge from your double or something. Likewise, if you buy an item through shop or get one through an event, we assume that you won't have it for a duel you started before the obtaining, unless the request was made before the said fight happened. This rule also applies to stats and level up. If you start a fight as level 1, you cannot suddenly become level 2, thus level ups are only done at the end of fights (In-rp. You can say you gained a level after a fight for example).

  8. BP Rule: This is a special rule that we created to be closer to canon. Every time you challenge a player, you will have 1 BP removed at the end of your fight with him, to show that you have accelerated to fight a desired opponent while the other was simply waiting for a challenge. In the case of the Unlimited Neutral Field, you will lose 10 BP at the end of your topic, since that was the cost of entering this neutral world in canon. Also, using Physical Burst will cost you 5 BP and will be removed at the end of your real world topic as well. As a reminder, you can only use Physical Burst after reaching level 4 and after being shown by someone who know the command. This also affects Physical Full Burst at level 9, which only those that were told about this command can use it.

  9. Time length: This is mostly related to battles, since real world stuff are not the same and consist mostly of talking. In battles, we judge that each posts are approximately 10 seconds, depending on what happens. So please keep this 10 seconds in mind when you act. Also, we believe that Talking in a fight is a free action, thus it is not taken in account during the time length per posts.

  10. Challenged once per day by same person: This is a function available in canon. We'd like to see people showing in their signature if they allow those that they fought to challenge them multiple times a day or not. If your option does not allow that, we assume That you won't be fighting them for at least 2 fights, unless you've vanished a week.

Punishment

Despite not really wanting to address this matter, I nevertheless feel the need to make things clear. Unless the case of irreconcilable offense, we generally do not ban anyone outright and would only issue warning on the first few attempts to disregard the rules.
However, repeated offense will see you banned and there shall be no whining about the matter. Dishonesty regarding burst points and other more minor offences will result in all of your characters being reset to their initial stage. Once again, defending your stance is possible ONLY with rational justification. A single ban is applicable to all the accounts that you have under control. Offences that can lead to a ban included but limited to:

  • Harassment of other members
  • Hacking into other players' account
  • Repeating other minor offences without any sign of improvement
  • Intentional obstruction of the admins and mods
  • All possible attempt to sabotage the community

A thread regarding the nature of his offence or an actual conversation that occur must be made when a player is banned. At least two members of the administration team must give their consent before a ban is passed. No mod/admin will ban others on the whim or due to personal reason.

Whew, done with heavy stuffs. Thank you for sparing your time and sorry about this long tedious read. Now, I hope you will have fun rping in our website.
